Of course with a time machine, they can both have copies of the same explosives at each time.

Actually, that's a way to make it more spectacular. Have multiple copies of all the explosives ever at each time.

Actually it wouldn't be all that surprising to find out that our universe was the product of some prior universe's being's idea of a cool thing to try just to see what happens.
