Yeah, this is the sort of thing aliens do for fun. Imagine if they had honest to goodness malicious intentions against humanity.
I don't think I've mentioned Ishmael's screensaver yet. Hopefully some readers will have noticed that it's an image of Mars. I don't remember which rover took the photo - probably Curiosity, but maybe Opportunity.
