George Lucas was on a hiding to nothing when he introduced Darth Maul's double-bladed lightsabre in Star Wars: Episode I. He had to go one better in Episode II and have Anakin fight with two lightsabres at once.

I hope Lucas doesn't shy away from the obvious progression in Episode III. Just remember, you saw it here first.

This comic was published over 2 years before Episode III was released in May, 2005. Need I say anything more than "General Grievous"? I'm ready for those royalties, George.
2012-02-02 Rerun commentary: Well, what more can I add to this strip, really? Except that so far I'm disappointed that Star Wars: The Clone Wars hasn't had anyone using a septuple lightsabre yet.

Do you hear me, George?!
