Comic #2063

1 Mate: So Miss Wendy, can you teach me to talk like a pirate?
2 Wendy: It be easy. Be replacin' all yer verbs wi' "be" (uninflected) followed by the gerund if necessary, bein' droppin' the "g". And be sayin' "Arrrrr!" a lot.
3 Mate: Well that does sound simple enough. You have a knack for explaining.
4 Wendy: I be teachin' grammar before I be becomin' a pirate. Arrrr!

It's the 19th of September (assuming I've got my timing right, writing this as I am in the first week of August...), which is International Talk Like a Pirate Day!

I've missed this in past years because I work so far in advance that by the time anyone reminds me I've already reached the end of September in my buffer. (And rearranging the buffer is highly non-trivial.)

But this year a kind reader reminded me three months in advance. :-)

2020-05-03 Rerun commentary: I'm guessing that parrot is meant to be a scarlet macaw. It matches the colouration very well. They are native to Central America and northern South America, so it's certainly the right range for Caribbean pirates to pick one up easily enough.

There would have been some trouble if it was a cockatoo.
