4 Wendy: Actually, it be makin’ a pleasant change from regular pirate food.

Eating Shoes.

Apparently, leather is actually edible and contains some nutritional value if not tanned - i.e. rawhide. Tanning leather removes a lot of the nutrients and replaces them with toxic compounds, so eating tanned leather isn't such a good idea.

Remember that next time you're marooned on a tiny island with no food.
