2021-01-02 Rerun commentary: That's a pretty cool way to answer the phone. Establish your geek credentials^[1] up front, put any caller on the back foot^[2] immediately.

[1] And your Greek credentials at the same time.

[2] I just wrote this sentence without thinking too much, and looking back over it for proofreading purposes I realised that "on the back foot" is an idiom derived from the sport of cricket, and so I began wondering if it's used in American English or not. Turns out that apparently it isn't. You folks really are missing out on some cool idioms.
