There's something about waiting in airport terminals that, oddly enough, makes it more interminable than any other sort of waiting in existence. Probably the fact that you're usually tired and jetlagged and haven't had a decent meal or a shower for more than 24 hours is a big part of it.

2025-02-22 Rerun commentary: Some of you are probably wondering why you'd still be at an airport more than 24 hours after beginning your journey. Welcome to life in Australia, where travelling to Europe or the US east coast routinely takes over 24 hours of travel.

Not to mention that time I flew to Europe in 2022 and my connecting flight out of Singapore was delayed by 25 hours. And because of the time we arrived and various stuff-ups by the airline staff (initially saying the delay was 8 hours, and then after 8 hours announcing an additional 13 hours delay), we didn't get put up in a hotel and had to wait the entire 25 hours sitting in the terminal.

Total travel time from Sydney to Frankfurt was over 49 hours. Oh, and we still had to take a train to our final destination. Door to door from our home to hotel was 56 hours. Even without the delay it would have been 31 hours of travel.
