My computer has speakers, as you can see in the comic. But I almost never turn them on. I hate computers making noises.
I'll turn them on to listen to a YouTube video or something where I actually want to hear the audio content, but otherwise they stay resolutely off.
My computer at work doesn't even have speakers, so I can't even do that. I cannot listen to anything on my work computer. I've never had a problem because of this.
I also have an old laptop which I put Linux on and use to do some random stuff - mostly writing things.
One day recently I had it plugged into a network and, for some reason, decided to check out some web page. I was shocked to hear it start playing some music! The web site apparently had embedded sound in it. I think it's the first time I've ever come across that. I didn't even realise web sites could have sound in them! (Well, apart from YouTube and such.)
Thankfully the days of websites with unnecessary embedded sound automatically playing in them seem to have passed. Mostly.
