"Hooves" is actually useful information, as it means that the stew is not fish, poultry, or rabbit. I wasn't sure about pork until I looked it up just now, but yes, pigs' trotters are technically classified as hooves. Although to my embarrassment, I've also discovered that technically camels' feet are not hooves.
Well, I'll blame it on the ignorance of this innkeeper. He probably thinks strawberries are berries, too! Ha ha!
