The disco dance floor is an actual bottom-lit surface, generated using the iPad app Photo Light HD (Softbox). I tried finding this app again to point you at it, but it doesn't seem to be available on the iOS app store any more. Anyway, it basically just generates a full iPad screen of patterned lights in various geometrical shapes, and makes a great minifigure sized disco floor.
