Comic #4031

1 Charity Collector Guy: First, I’ll need access to your computer files.
2 Head Death: HA HA HA HA! WE DON'T USE COMPUTERS HERE. IT'S ALL HAND-WRITTEN LEDGERS.
3 Charity Collector Guy: Well I'll just have to read through those.
4 Head Death: IN GOTHIC BLACKLETTER, WITH THOSE FUNNY ‘S’S. GOOD LUCK!

Blackletter is the script style that looks like this:

Good luck to anyone from the modern world (without prior experience) reading dozens of volumes of that.

It's interesting that this strip is about script styles and legibility, because if you have a high resolution monitor, you may have noticed that today's strip looks different. Sharper and more crisp, hopefully. The photos, but particularly noticeably in the comic dialogue text.

I only learnt a few days ago that websites can now support serving image files at multiple different resolutions, and the browser will select the most appropriate one for the display resolution. If you have a high resolution monitor, rather than seeing a 992×332 pixel comic file, scaled so that each pixel fills 2×2 pixels of your screen, you are now seeing a 1984×664 pixel image file of the same comic. I was already creating the comics at a higher resolution anyway, so creating this extra file is trivial, and I'll be doing it from now on. I also have high-res Photoshop files for every strip beginning from #3381, so I'll eventually save off double resolution versions of those and add them to the site as well.
