I based this strip on an old joke that I liked when I was a child:
"If there was a colour darker than black, I'd paint my house in it, and then paint the bathroom black to brighten the place up."
Searching the net didn't find the source of this joke, only what is either an independent re-discovery or a plagiarism.
I did run across this anime series as well. I really hope it has some scenes that are completely black.
