It's so nonsensical and the Balrog so doesn't have the time that it doesn't even bother to kill them all before it leaves.
I'm imagining monsters in some fantasy dungeon somewhere thinking, "Oh man, adventurers again. I don't have time to deal with this sort of stuff!"
