The movie Pirates of the Caribbean popularised the use of the word "parley" as a thing you can shout in the middle of a hostile encounter to indicate you want to negotiate peacefully, and have your request be more or less respected. In reality this was never a thing, although the idea of parley does refer to a sort of truce agreed for negotiations.
