Badlands and bandits have a strong association in my mind. Perhaps mostly because of the alliteration.
But it doesn't seem to be only me. The association between bandits and badlands was made in popular culture as far back as 1945. And now there is a computer game and (inevitably) a band, as well as a Cowboy Action Shooting Club (whatever that is), and a bass fishing club.
There are also scholarly articles and academic research papers.
It's clearly fate.
