2 Paris: But readers will be pointing out that I died before the Deaths went on strike. My soul should already be collected.
3 Head Death: YOU REALISE YOU'RE BREAKING THE FOURTH WALL?...
4 Paris: I'm dead! Give me a break!
4 Head Death: ... AND EXPECTING CONTINUITY?

The fourth wall is an imaginary barrier separating a fictional character or setting from the reader or viewer who observes the fiction. Breaking the fourth wall refers to the act of a character addressing the viewer directly or making some reference to the fact that he is fictional.

Some webcomics make it a habit of breaking the fourth wall, and derive a lot of their humour from it. I tend to restrict it to the "Me" theme. Except here.

Continuity is another literary device I don't use very much.

2014-08-28 Rerun commentary: Except in this case it should really be the first wall, seeing as there are no other walls delineating the Head Death's office.

It'd be nice to have an office with no walls. You can just see in all directions forever. And the nice breeze you'd get would be better than a lot of office air conditioning.
