1 Martian 1: So when is this asteroid finally going to hit Earth?
2 Martian 2: We timed it to coincide with the end of the then-current election campaign in their United States of America.
3 Martian 1: But you did it months ago! Any sensible election campaign must surely be over and done with long before now.
4 Martian 2: Do you want to give him the bad news, or shall I?

I'm constantly re-astounded by the incredible length of American election campaigns.
It was a few months after the current US election campaign began that we here in Australia embarked on a federal election campaign of our own.
The US election is of course still going as I type (and as this comic goes to air).
Australia has had a new Prime Minister for over six months.
As I write this (some six weeks in advance), our current PM has served just 8 months, and we're currently in the middle of another election campaign. By the time this rerun is published, we may well have another new Prime Minister.
