Lagos used to be the capital of Nigeria, until it was moved to the newly constructed Abuja in 1991.

It's interesting that several countries have constructed completely new cities for the specific purpose of making them capital cities, rather than just designating an existing city the capital.

2023-05-07 Rerun commentary: Indonesia is currently in the process of building a new capital city, planning to move the capital designation from Jakarta to the newly constructed Nusantara in Borneo. Construction began on Nusantara in July 2022, and it is planned to officially designate it as the new capital city on 17 August, 2024.

That's pretty fast to build a whole city. Photos of the Nusantara area in 2022 basically show it as being just a forest. It'll be interesting to see how complete it is by the deadline.
