Comic #2528

1 Sue: {drinking} We were waiting for our boyfriends - they're scientists at the Army Base - but they called to say they have some important work to do tonight.
2 Mary: You kind of remind us of them, actually.
3 Sue: Only more... mature. More sensible.
4 Young Jamie: {to Adam} Well there's another myth confirmed. Alcohol really does impair judgement.

Of course the females in this strip are not the only ones with impaired judgement at this point...

2023-11-24 Rerun commentary: In the old joke, the scientist has both a wife and a mistress, so he can tell his wife that he's with his mistress, tell his mistress that he's with his wife, and go spend more time in the lab.

This is unrealistic, of course, as it presupposes that the scientist can be socially adept and charismatic enough to attract the attentions of two women.
