In the best traditions of fantasy gaming, I'm completely ignoring the question of how Ardaxar manages to fit through that door.

It would often be the case in early Dungeons & Dragons adventures, particularly ones written by inexperienced DMs, that you'd have a dungeon consisting of large rooms full of monsters, connected by various passages and doors, with the odd property that some of the monsters were too large to actually fit through the passages or doors. Of course, being a fantasy setting the old excuse that a wizard did it might feasibly be true. Remember that next time you see someone walking through a suspiciously human-sized door...
