Abydos is the site of one of the most ancient cities in Egypt, inhabited since the pre-dynastic period. The very first pharaohs of the earliest Egyptian dynasties were buried there. The city contains many important archaeological burial sites, as well as extant above-ground construction, including the Great Osiris Temple, the Temple of Seti I (a pharaoh of the Nineteenth Dynasty, and father of Ramesses II), and the Temple of Ramesses II (a.k.a. Ramesses the Great).
Note: This story arc was not inspired by Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, which I just found out (about 30 seconds ago as I type this) was a thing that exists, while doing research for writing this annotation.
