3 Dustin: What makes you so sure?
4 Lucas: It’s Gygax. What he intended was for everyone to die horribly while he laughed at them.

This comic was inspired by my own thoughts while writing the previous two strips of this theme. I needed to come up with a way for the gang to retrieve the two keys without getting harmed by either the vat of acid or the ochre jelly, without access to typical fantasy dungeons adventurers' equipment or magic. I realised they could try pouring the acid onto the jelly and decided that would work. Then I realised that in the actual game that should work too.

And then I had the thought: Wait. Is that how Gary Gygax intended this room to be solved? Did I just figure that out myself for the first time?

It's hard to know for sure. But it seems plausible. Except for the point Lucas makes here.
