Wow. I invented the word "splanch" as a sort of cross between spleen (the funniest organ name, by far) and splanchnic nerves (which I first learned about from Futurama - see, TV is educational).
And it turns out that splanch is a word. Apparently it's a style of house architecture. Why they named it after a fictional alien body organ is beyond me.
Splanchnic nerves are so named because the root "splanch" comes from a Greek word meaning "guts". When I first read this comic, I thought that was a clever name for an alien organ.Cleverer than you suspected, it seems.
