2021-10-03 Rerun commentary: I'm very happy with the way I made a hole in the Infinite Featureless Plane. It would have been a fair bit of work building that set, even though it doesn't look particularly complicated. The whole grey plane needs to be elevated off the table surface with bricks, and then dark bricks used underneath to give the appearance of a dark hole.

Another thought: If Heaven turns out to be the stereotypical image of a place floating on clouds, then digging a deep hole would probably be a really bad idea.
