4 Yeti: They pulled up all the grape vines and planted nothing but Riesling.

I've fairly recently started the ongoing process of discovering and appreciating wine. I've tried several different types now, and am starting to get a handle on the differences between the various grape varieties and the flavours they bring to wine. I've also bought a couple of books and read up a bit.

If you know at least as much about wine as I do, you probably find today's comic hilarious. (Or at least amusing. Well, I hope you do.) Alas, those of you who know less about wine than I do probably don't find it particularly funny at all.

I'm not about to explain it, though, because I expect that won't make it be funny. Let it just be said that Riesling in Bordeaux would no doubt be grapes of wrath.

2025-08-03 Rerun commentary: There is the issue that Riesling grapes probably wouldn't grow very well in Bordeaux. Different grape varieties require different growing conditions. Riesling is more of a cool climate grape, which is why it grows better in Germany than southern France. Riesling is grown in France, but almost exclusively in Alsace, the inland northern region bordering Germany.
