1 Prof. Jones: We'll have no truck with this newfangled technology. Telephone, indeed! The way to contact someone urgently is by telegram!
2 Prof. Jones: I say, my good man, where is the nearest telegraph office?
3 Man: There's none here in Tintagel. Ye'll have to go to Plymouth. Near 50 miles away.
4 Prof. Jones: This is urgent, man! Isn't there a quicker way?
4 Man: You could telephone them.

Embarrassing story: When I wrote the previous strip in this story, I didn't even think of telegrams as a possible method of communication. As readers pointed out in the forums, a telegram would most likely have been the first thing someone in the 1930s would have though of in this situation. Unfortunately, I have the disadvantage of not having lived through the 1930s, so telegrams simply didn't occur to me.
Fortunately, there was still a way to have them enter the conversation, and it makes a better storyline that what I originally had planned for this strip. So I scrapped my original plotting for this scene and rewrote it for better verisimilitude.
