2 Spanners: I can use the root password to get access, and restore from backup to clear out the Russian malware.

4 Spanners: This is cyberspace. First we have to walk across a virtual landscape to the representation of the reset button.

This is kind of how I feel whenever I try and fix something that's gone wrong with my computer. (Both at home and at work.)

Before you can do that, you need to install this, and configure this, and copy this to here, and make sure this process is running, and blah blah blah blah...

I wonder if computers are getting easier to use, or if they're actually requiring more specialised knowledge to use properly over time. Maybe we'll hit some sort of singularity where our computers all develop problems that nobody on StackExchange - or indeed anywhere - knows how to fix any more.
