The background in the second panel is a photo I took in the Italian town of Cuneo. Here's Google Streetview's image of the same spot, so you can see exactly where it is. It's not a huge tourist destination, but it was definitely interesting to visit, and provided possibly the best meal of the entire vacation I was on at the time. Osteria Senza Fretta, if you ever happen to be passing through - highly recommended!
The fourth panel background is a photo I took in the Steinhart Aquarium at the California Academy of Sciences, in Golden Gate Park San Francisco. Well, I wasn't actually in the aquarium - you know what I mean.
