Comic #3920

1 Mercutio: Cut! Great! That's all the introduction scenes done.
2 Mercutio: Now we'll film the part where you return to the present. We can do the 1536 scenes later in the week, when we get the costumes.
3 Angela: How does the episode end?
3 Shakespeare: I tell a poor joke and we laugh.
3 Angela: Isn't that a bit clich├ęd?
3 Shakespeare: Yes, it is!
4 Angela: Ha ha ha ha!
4 Shakespeare: Ha ha ha ha!

This refers to the Everybody Laughs Ending. Particularly common in 1960s, 70s, and 80s TV series. Even drama series when it would be totally inappropriate for the main characters to laugh because someone - or even hundreds or in some cases millions of people have died. See the original series of Star Trek and Blake's 7 for some examples.
