Maybe it's just me, but I get this weird impression from American TV shows that it's normal, or at least not unusual, for a new kid to just randomly show up to a school, and everyone to be perfectly fine with it - as opposed to everyone wondering where this kid came from.
Or maybe it's the type of shows that I watch...
