Bran Castle is a castle in the Transylvanian region of Romania, next to the border with Wallachia. It dates from around the 13th or 14th century.
It's a nice looking castle, and has been developed into a tourist attraction, billed as "Dracula's Castle", although it has no known associations with Bram Stoker and his novel Dracula, nor with the historical figure of Vlad the Impaler, who is often cited as an inspiration for Stoker's Dracula. Bran Castle was not allied with Vlad, and there are some stories that Vlad may have been imprisoned for a while in Bran Castle after being captured by Hungarians in 1462, but there is no solid evidence and historians generally prefer the conclusion that he was imprisoned in Budapest, and never visited Bran Castle at all.
