The Royal Society had its headquarters in Crane Court, just off Fleet Street in London, from 1710 to 1780. There appears to be a subtle memorial in the form of a lamp which serves as the centre of a sort of armillary sphere, at the southern end of the court, although the Society met in premises at the northern end. Isaac Newton, who became president of the Royal Society in 1703, oversaw the acquisition and move into the Crane Court premises.
