This strip uses a camera trick which I believe I used a fair bit, which is to pull the camera right back on a silent beat panel, to emphasise the silent emptiness. (The opposite approach is to to do a beat panel with an extreme close-up of one character, possibly showing only their face or even just their eyes. I'm sure I've used that a few times too.)
