1 Head Death: YES.
2 Paris: What about the philosophical implications? My existence here in the afterlife is evidence of a non-material soul, independent of my body.
3 Paris: Even if recreated to a submolecular level, with memories intact, will the new body be me? Will this soul return to inhabit it?
4 Head Death: YES. WE DO IT THAT WAY TO AVOID HAVING TO PHOTOCOPY YOUR FILES.

There are lots of philosophical implications here. But I'm too lazy to discuss them. So work them out for yourself.

2014-12-24 Rerun commentary: One of those implications is considering what would have happened if the original Paris hadn't died before having a clone created with an uploaded copy of her mindscan.

In which case I probably wouldn't have brought up the concept of a non-material soul in the comic.

Unless I wanted to mess with it, of course.
