Comic #1099

1 Leia: {coquettishly} Aren't you a little short to be a stormtrooper?
1 Luke: What? Oh... the uniform. {takes stormtrooper helmet off}
2 Luke: I'm Luke Skywalker. I'm here to rescue you.
2 Leia: You're who?
3 Luke: I'm here to rescue you. I've got your R2 unit. I'm here with Ben... Hang on, you thought I was a stormtrooper?
4 Leia: Er...
4 Luke: Do you make it a habit to flirt with Imperial troops like that?

Watch this scene again. Leia is flirting with Luke, while thinking he's an Imperial stormtrooper.

She's getting cozy with Imperial troops.

Is this merely some sort of ploy to try to seduce a guard and escape... from her cell and into the middle of a fully armed and operational battle station? In the middle of space? If this is her excuse, what the heck is she thinking?

Or does she really have a thing for cute stormtroopers?

Maybe she's suffering from some sort of Stockholm syndrome?

Just what the heck is going on here?

2015-05-05 Rerun commentary: When this strip originally ran, several readers commented that what's happening here is that Leia immediately recognises that Luke can't possibly be a real stormtrooper, because of his lack of height, even with the helmet on. She then correctly deduces that whoever this person is, he (or she) must be disguised so as to infiltrate the Death Star and presumably rescue her - otherwise why come to her cell? So in fact, even before Luke explains anything, she knows that this guy isn't a stormtrooper and is here to rescue her. Thus the playful banter.

Well... maybe. Seems a little far-fetched to me, though.
