Comic #1106

1 Adam: I guess we have to wait for the ratings to see if our show started stinking when Steve jumped the shark.
2 Terry: How soon until this episode goes to air?
2 Jamie: A couple of weeks. Why?
3 Terry: We really should be out of the country before the Fish and Wildlife Service finds out we're here.
4 Steve: But that was years ago! And those bald eagles were big enough to fend for themselves without such stroppy parents!

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is a bureau of the U.S. Department of the Interior whose Mission (TM) is to "conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people".

The Service manages over 500 National Wildlife Refuges and many smaller areas, totalling 93 million acres of land. It employs 7,500 people to make sure people like Steve don't harangue threatened and significant species such as the bald eagle.

2015-05-15 Rerun commentary: Bald eagles are not actually bald - the name comes from an archaic meaning of "bald", meaning "white headed", and referring to their distinctive plumage with a body covered in brown feather while the head is covered in white feathers.

On the other hand, an eagle certainly has no hair on its head, so it might qualify as bald in that sense too.

I wonder if there are hirsute eagles.
