1 Young Jamie: Wait, wait, wait. The Nazis won?
2 Jamie: Yes. They defeated the tyranny of the expansionist British Empire.
3 Jamie: I mean, good lord, can you imagine if the British had won?
4 Adam: We'd all be eating corned beef, stodgy puddings, and mushy peas!

When I wrote this strip, I only had one example of bad British food, thinking I could fill in a couple of others later. The one I had was mushy peas.

When it came time to finalise the script, I happened to be chatting to some friends online. I asked them what are some examples of bad British food. Three people said "mushy peas" almost simultaneously.

The really weird thing is that I quite like mushy peas.

2023-03-24 Rerun commentary: Although mushy peas are a traditional accompaniment to fish & chips in the UK, and here in Australia we also have a strong tradition of fish & chips, mushy peas are very rare here. I've had mushy peas from one or two Australian fish & chip places that specifically advertise themselves as "British Fish & Chips", but otherwise we seem to have neglected the idea. I'm really not sure why, as they seem innocuous and actually nice to me.
