There was a fad in the late 1980s and 1990s for murder mystery dinner party games. The first big name was How to Host a Murder, which spawned a host of copycat brands. I played a couple of the How to Host a Murder titles with groups of friends, and they were great fun.
Interestingly, from my point of view, I just learnt by looking up that link that the How to Host a Murder games were published by Decipher Inc., a company that I know much better for various other games, mostly the Star Wars Customisable Card Game and the Star Trek Roleplaying Game, which I had and have, respectively.
